Physical Development

Good nutrition during the first 1000 days gives the child full potential to grow physically and intellectually. Poor nutrition on the other hand leads to stunting and the consequences are passed on from mother to child. It takes 2-3 generations to combat stunting in future generations.


There is a growing body of research that suggests that heart disease, obesity, type II diabetes and behaviour health problems may have their origins in epigenetic changes during pregnancy and that nutrition plays a key role in these changes.

SHRIMATI MALATI DAHANUKAR TRUST (SMDT):

Shrimati Malati Dahanukar Trust is a trust established in 1960 in Shrirampur, Maharashtra. It aims at working with the community by addressing the issues within. The main area of work include: Education, Health & Nutrition, Organic Farming & Environmental Sustainability and Sports.

OUR INTERFACE WITH THE COMMUNITY

We collaborate with local ICDS, ASHA WORKERS & BMC teams working in the area. Our doctors, nutritionists and field officers conduct clinics in the community for pregnant mothers, lactating mothers and children under 3 years of age. We also spread awareness on maternal, infant and young child nutrition in the community through various activities.

SMDT's HEALTH & NUTRITION PROGRAM

SMDT focuses on 1st 1000 days through Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) empowerment of the community. It runs a central and outreach clinic in Shrirampur and now in Mumbai.
